Session 1
This Is Me!
In our first session, we’ll spend some time getting to know one another through fun icebreaker games.  We’ll then get to know ourselves better through theatre and self-discovery games as well as creative role-playing.  Get ready to discover your greatest role ever - you!  It’s going to be an amazing journey!

Session 2
Seeing Isn’t Believing: Media Images & Bias
How many hours a day do you watch (consume) media?  And just what are you watching?  And how does what you watch affect how you feel about yourself or others?  In this class, we’ll take a look at media images to learn how they affect our perceptions and even encourage or support misconceptions, stereotypes and prejudices. Media has incredible power.  Let’s make sure we’re using it for good!

Session 3
Lights. Camera. Action: SmartPhone Filmmaking
Get ready to take the director’s chair!  In this session, we’ll learn the basics of filmmaking, including production planning, camera shots, camera movement, lighting, audio and more.  We’ll then use our newly acquired filmmaking knowledge and skills to produce video for our final film project, creating some movie magic!

Session 4
Body Positivity
You’re amazing both inside and out!  Together, we’ll challenge the traditional beauty norms and find a deeper appreciation for our bodies (just as they are) and all the incredible things they can do.  This session is all about loving you exactly as you are.

Session 5
You’re a storyteller.  
We all have a personal story to share.  In this session, we’ll look at the fun and creative side of writing and begin a storytelling journey that empowers and uplifts us using the theme of body positivity.  Get ready to write your girl power story and inspire the world.

Session 6
A Star Performance
Get ready to take center stage!  In this session, we’ll do theatre games and exercises as we go over the fundamentals of acting and public speaking to bring out your best star performance.  You’ll then take what you learn and apply it to your own special video performance with a script written by you!

Session 7
How to be a Documentary Filmmaker
Documentary filmmaking is a fun art which requires a sense of adventure, inquisitiveness, openness and a love for story. Learn how to tell stories that make a difference in this session focused on the art of crafting the unexpected!

Session 8
Can I Ask You a Question? - The Art of Interviewing
Learning about others is fun.  And we can learn much if we ask the right questions!  In this session, we’ll learn how to prepare for and do interviews, allowing us to gather interesting stories and insightful information for our films.  This will be a lively session for budding journalists, documentary filmmakers and anyone with an inquisitive mind!

Session 9
Story Structure & Editing
Now that we’ve shot an abundance of footage for our film, we need to think about how it all goes together.  In this session, we’ll learn about story structure and how to organize all that footage into a story that makes sense, inspires and entertains.  

Session 10
Share & Review
In this session, we’ll share and review the footage we’ve shot and begin to structure it into an edit.

Session 11
Share & Review, Part 2
In this session, we’ll continue to share and review the footage we’ve shot and structure it into an edit.

Session 12
That’s a Wrap!
In our final class together, we’ll review our final edit choices for our collaborative film and review what we’ve learned. You’ll be amazed at what we create together!

REEL GIRL POWER VOTE 2020 PSA

Our summer 2020 camp was a blast and included some very talented Reel Girls.  In the fall of 2020, some of our Reel Girls used the video skills they learned in camp to create this public service announcement encouraging people to vote.  We love these young ladies and couldn't be more proud of them!!
